Hey beautiful souls,
I used to think that starting over was something you only did once, maybe twice, in a lifetime. You know, those big, movie-montage moments where you quit your job, move to a new city, or end a relationship and step boldly into a fresh chapter.
But now, after months on the road, I’ve come to understand that starting over is less of a dramatic leap and more of a gentle, ongoing practice. It’s not a single decision, but a thousand small ones. It’s a messy, brave, beautiful art form a commitment to letting yourself evolve over and over again.
Here are a few things I’ve learned about the art of starting over:
You Don’t Need a Clean Slate to Begin Again
I used to wait for the “perfect moment” to reinvent myself after the breakup, after the move, after the New Year. But the truth is, life rarely hands you a clean slate. Most of my freshest starts have happened in the midst of chaos, with a messy past still clinging to my shoes. And that’s okay. You can rebuild, reimagine, and restart right where you are, even if it’s messy and uncertain.
You’re Allowed to Change Your Mind
We get so caught up in the idea that we have to stick to a single path once we choose it. But growth means changing. It means letting go of dreams that no longer fit and giving yourself permission to move in a new direction. I’ve walked away from jobs, plans, and even relationships that I once thought would define me, only to find that there was so much more waiting on the other side.
Seasonal work has taught me this better than anything else, I’ve found that every job, every season, is a chance to reinvent myself. It’s a reminder that we don’t have to have one fixed identity. We can be many things, at different times, to different people and still be fully ourselves.
The Fear Never Really Goes Away (And That’s Okay)
Every time I pack up and drive toward the unknown, my heart races a bit. Doubt creeps in. Fear whispers that I’m making a mistake. But here’s the thing I’ve learned that fear isn’t a sign that you’re on the wrong path. It’s just a reminder that you’re stepping into something new, something that matters. It’s the price of a life lived fully.
Small Steps Count, Too
Sometimes starting over looks like a cross-country move or a big, bold breakup. But sometimes, it’s smaller. It’s choosing a new morning routine, cutting your hair, or finally letting yourself say no to things that drain you. Small shifts create ripples, and those ripples can change everything. Seasonal work has been a way for me to lean into this trying on different lifestyles, learning new skills, and discovering sides of myself I never knew existed.
You’ll Grieve What You Leave Behind (Even If It Wasn’t Right for You)
There’s a strange, bittersweet feeling that comes with letting go of an old version of yourself. Even if you know deep down that you’re moving toward something better, it’s okay to mourn what you’re leaving behind. Those old chapters shaped you, and letting them go is a kind of quiet bravery.
You’ll Find Yourself Again and Again
The beautiful thing about starting over is that every time you do, you come home to a deeper, truer version of yourself. You strip away what no longer fits, and you grow into someone who feels more like you. That’s the art of it the slow, tender, sometimes-painful process of becoming.
And sometimes, this process happens in the most unexpected places—a cramped staff cabin, a remote lodge, or a bustling summer town where you meet people who change you forever. I’ve met so many beautiful souls while working seasonal jobs, each one a reminder that reinvention isn’t just possible, it’s inevitable.
So, if you’re standing on the edge of a fresh start, feeling that nervous, electric mix of fear and excitement, I want you to know this: You are capable of reinventing yourself as many times as it takes. You are allowed to change, to grow, to walk away and walk toward. You are allowed to start over, not just once, but as often as your heart demands.
Here’s to the art of becoming. Here’s to beginning again, and again, and again.
With love,
Aurora ❤︎︎
