An iced brown sugar shaken espresso with warm cinnamon, creamy oat milk, and just the right amount of sweetness.
I love a good coffee shop moment, but I also love not spending seven dollars on a drink I can make in my own kitchen. Lol.
There’s something satisfying about making your favorite coffee at home, especially when it turns out just as good as the one you’d normally leave the house for.
I’ve been loving the idea of keeping things simple. A good cup of coffee, a little breakfast, and maybe a few minutes to myself before getting into whatever the day has planned.
This brown sugar shaken espresso is perfect for that.
It’s bold, lightly sweet, a little cinnamon-y, and finished with creamy oat milk. Nothing complicated, nothing that requires a bunch of fancy ingredients. Just a really good iced coffee that takes about five minutes to make.
Plus, shaking the espresso with brown sugar and cinnamon gives it that lovely frothy finish that makes it feel a little more like something you’d order at a coffee shop.
Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 1
Difficulty: Easy
What You’ll Need
- 2 shots freshly brewed espresso
- 1–2 teaspoons brown sugar, depending on how sweet you like your coffee
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup ice, plus more for serving
- A splash of oat milk (or your favorite milk)
How to Make It
1. Brew your espresso.
Start by brewing two shots of espresso. While it’s still hot, stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon until the sugar has dissolved.
2. Shake it up.
Let the espresso cool slightly, then add it to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 15–20 seconds until the espresso is chilled and frothy. Avoid sealing very hot espresso in a shaker, since steam can build pressure.
3. Pour over ice.
Fill your favorite glass with fresh ice and pour the shaken espresso over it. Make sure to get all that lovely foam on top.
4. Add your milk.
Finish with a splash of oat milk, or whichever milk you prefer. Give it a gentle stir if you’d like, or leave it layered for that pretty coffeehouse look.
5. Enjoy!
Add a tiny sprinkle of cinnamon on top if you’re feeling a little extra, and enjoy while it’s cold.
A Few Little Notes
Brown sugar is the secret. It gives the espresso a subtle caramel-like sweetness that regular white sugar doesn’t quite deliver.
Oat milk works beautifully. It’s creamy, slightly sweet, and pairs so well with the cinnamon and espresso. Of course, use whatever milk you already have.
Don’t skip the shaking. That’s what gives the espresso its chilled, frothy texture. Stirring everything together is fine in a pinch, but shaking makes it feel a little more special.
Make it your own. Start with one teaspoon of brown sugar if you prefer your coffee less sweet, or use two if you like a little extra sweetness.
A Little Something Before You Go
I don’t think every little thing we do at home needs to become a whole ritual.
Sometimes I just want a good iced coffee without having to put on real clothes and drive somewhere to get it. That’s really all there is to it. Lol.
This is one of those recipes that’s easy enough to make whenever the craving hits, and honestly, those are usually the ones I end up coming back to.
Two shots of espresso, a little brown sugar, some cinnamon, and a splash of oat milk.
Simple, delicious, and one less reason to spend money at the coffee shop.
With love,
Aurora
